Lifeways

Since 1995, Lifeways has believed passionately in helping every person reach their full potential. Our approach to supporting and enabling people with a wide range of needs is based on Lifeways’ philosophy which upholds that each person has a right to take control of how their service is planned and delivered. We now support over 1600 individuals across the UK to live fulfilled and rewarding lives as active members of their local community.

Through person-centred approaches and planning, all services and support are tailored to each person’s needs and are comprehensive in nature dealing with all major aspects of a person’s life, including social, educational, vocational, financial, recreational and leisure activities.

We believe that every person, regardless of severity of need or disability, has the ability to grow, learn and develop, and this can be enhanced by ensuring people have access to their community and to mainstream resources.

Our services are individually tailored to support people with:

  • learning disabilities;
  • mental health needs;
  • autistic spectrum disorders;
  • profound and multiple learning disabilities;
  • sensory and communication impairments;
  • acquired brain injuries.

Making a difference

Improving lives and giving real control and choice to those we support has been the key to enabling individuals achieve their desired outcomes.

For Robert, who has a learning disability, epilepsy and autism, the dream of moving into his own home had always been regarded as impossible due to his complex behavioural and healthcare needs. Lifeways worked with healthcare professionals to design a package which would meet these needs. This included specialist training and use of assistive technology to safely manage his epilepsy, as well as intensive input from the speech and language and behavioural support teams to develop comprehensive communication and behavioural management.

He now spends his time doing housework, leisure activities, shopping and participating in the running of his house, where he receives 24-hour support from Lifeways. He has also been encouraged to develop new social opportunities, and enjoys going to the cinema, swimming pool, music centre and the pub with friends. He also enjoys weekly sessions at a local college, with support from Lifeways.

Kath lived on an NHS campus for many years until she moved into her own home with a couple of friends. As part of her person-centred planning process, Elvis fan Kath identified that it was her dream to visit Graceland. With the support of her Lifeways team, Kath was supported to save and plan for the trip of a lifetime. Firstly, her support workers accompanied her on a mini-break to Spain to ensure she could cope with air travel and, following the success of that trip, they booked the journey to the US.  Accompanied by her team, the holiday exposed Kath to experiences and opportunities she may never have otherwise had.

Driving personalisation forward for all

Lifeways also has a strong focus on individualised budgets and is working closely with In-Control to change the way support is provided up and down the UK. The personalised financial plans give individuals the chance to set their own goals, choose how much additional support they require and exactly how to spend their own money.

We believe local services for local people make all the difference. We achieve this through a network of local offices across the UK, all of which are highly rated by CQC.
